Van Schil tot Schaal
Van Schil naar Schaal (From Shell to Bowl) is an ongoing body of work that transforms local food waste into handmade tableware. Eggshells, oyster shells, pistachio husks, and wood shavings — collected from Rotterdam kitchens and landscapes — are given a second life at the dining table.
Each piece carries the traces of its origin in color and texture, making the journey visible: from discarded material to meaningful object. In doing so, the tableware creates a tangible link between food, material, and guest.
This project makes circularity tangible rather than abstract. By working with chefs and local makers, waste becomes ritual — objects that embody care for origin and enrich the way we eat.
About me
I am a visual artist and designer with a deep fascination for gastronomy, materiality, and circularity. My work explores the intimate connection between food and the objects we eat from — how tableware can be more than a silent vessel, but a storyteller of origin, care, and transformation.
I create tableware and installations using residual materials such as eggshells, oyster shells, and pistachio husks, often collected in collaboration with local restaurants in Rotterdam. These natural waste streams become the foundation for tactile, food-safe objects that invite reflection at the table. Through their textures, irregularities, and muted tones, they quietly reveal where they come from — bridging the dish, the object, and the dining experience.
